48 Rewarding and Redeeming Hours

Most filmmakers and artists are perfectionists by nature. For all aspiring filmmakers, 48HFP is a remarkable opportunity to eschew the oppressive aspects of perfectionism and just get a good film done, fast.

Shortly after receiving the wildcard genre of Doppelgänger, Patrick sat down to write the script. An hour later, an ingenious script was ready to shoot. I made maybe 3 or 4 additions and corrections, and we got to work on “Double Walker.”

Less than 48 hours later, the end result was moody, political, disturbing, thought-provoking, and, of course, not perfect. But this whole experience has taught me that when you give it your all within a set time and stick to it, you find the results are perfect enough.

Sean McArdle generously provided unreleased tracks by himself and his former band, The Cost. This formed the perfect score, setting the mood and tone of the final film. This movie would be nothing without its brilliant soundtrack.

We finished editing at 3:30pm, then were “treated” to a nerve wracking rendering nightmare that really got down to the wire… but thankfully, we made it!

I’m so impressed that 19 teams actually finished within the allotted time. Kudos to all.

Chantal and the 48HFP team did a great job putting this whole thing together. Crowds in virtual environments tend to be chaotic and pointless, but the kick-off and wrap-up events were run in efficient, awe-inspiring fashion.

I enjoyed speaking with members of other teams and helping each other out occasionally, and I particularly valued a too-brief conversation with the leader of M4SK 22 with whom we shared our genre.

I can’t wait to see the other films! Best of luck to everyone and congrats on your achievement.

I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world.

Machinima.com scores $9million in funding!

Awesome news for the world of machinima in general! Forbes reports on massive funding for machinima.com, quoting CEO Allen DeBevoise:

DeBevoise says the success of the site is partly due to a trend in video games, where the main product is increasingly supported by additional marketing and entertainment, like downloadable content or online videos. He cites as evidence Machinima’s “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″ video content, which attracted 125 million video views in the first 100 days.

The road gladdens the obsessed ghost.
